Terms of use
Published by Creative Conceptz Solutions LTD, Nigeria. Website: https://area51.conceptz.com.ng Terms: https://area51.conceptz.com.ng/terms Contact: contact@conceptz.com.ng
Please read these terms before installing or first using Area51 Lock. Choosing "I accept" confirms that you have read and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, cancel setup or first launch. Keep a copy for your records.
1. What Area51 Lock does - and does not do
Area51 is a casual-access privacy guard for supported desktop applications on Windows 10 and 11. It hides selected application windows while locked and asks for your local unlock passcode to restore them. Applications and existing work continue running. This is not pre-launch interception, encryption, an antivirus, a password manager, a parental-control system or an operating-system security boundary. Windows may appear briefly before being hidden.
Someone using your Windows account or administrator privileges may bypass, disable, terminate or remove Area51. Unsupported applications, elevated apps, notifications, previews, other accounts and alternate access paths may reveal information. Never rely on Area51 alone to protect sensitive or regulated data. Use Windows sign-in, separate user accounts, appropriate device encryption and other protection suitable for your information.
Cancelling or repeating a new browser launch may send that browser a normal close request. A browser can refuse or display its own confirmation dialog. Windows already present before locking are preserved; Area51 does not force terminate browser processes. Non-browser document windows are not closed by this policy. Hiding an app from Area51's list does not remove its guard selection.
2. Startup, access and your responsibilities
The same installer is used for direct downloads and Microsoft Store distribution. It registers Area51 to start when this Windows account signs in. Interactive setup requires acceptance of the license and terms; silent Store setup requires acceptance on first launch before Area51 can be used. Windows can delay or disable startup, and Area51 protects windows only while running with the guard enabled. Area51 checks startup while running and offers a repair/settings action, but does not override Windows or administrator policy. Uninstalling removes Area51's own startup integration.
Use Area51 only on devices and Windows accounts you own or are authorized to manage. Keep backups and a trusted way to read your recovery mailbox outside any application you intend to lock. You are responsible for remembering your passcode, securing your mailbox and Windows account, and testing the guard on your applications. Five incorrect local passcode attempts cause a five-hour waiting period. Do not use the hosted recovery service to abuse, impersonate or spam others.
3. Email verification and recovery
Setup requires verification of your email before creating a local passcode. Ordinary unlocking works offline after setup. Enrollment, verification, reset and recovery-registration removal require an internet connection and the hosted recovery service.
Recovery depends on access to your verified mailbox and the installation's saved device key. It cannot guarantee recovery after loss or corruption of the Windows profile, deleted settings, a compromised mailbox or a service outage. Our backend and email delivery service providers operate parts of the recovery service; delivery and availability are subject to their limits. No guaranteed availability or response time is offered.
4. Privacy
The desktop keeps the unlock-passcode verifier, settings, application paths, list preferences and recovery device key locally. Protected settings use Windows DPAPI. The application does not send your local unlock passcode or its verifier, application selection, window titles, documents, browser tabs or browsing history to the recovery service. It includes no application analytics or advertising.
The recovery service receives your email, installation identifier/public key, signed requests, nonces, timestamps and submitted email verification passcodes. Our backend host handles network metadata including IP addresses. Our database stores encrypted email and installation records plus keyed tags used for quotas. The service can decrypt email to send verification/reset messages; this is not end-to-end encryption. Our email delivery provider processes the recipient address and email content. Provider logging, retention and international processing follow provider policies and applicable law; this application cannot erase provider backups or Windows logs.
Active email challenges last ten minutes. An hourly cleanup removes expired challenges and quotas and unverified registrations older than one day. Verified registrations remain until authenticated removal. Use Delete account in Area51 Settings to remove this installation's account. Uninstall never requests account deletion. If an account-deletion request is offline or fails, a server record may remain; contact support for assistance. We may need to verify a request before acting on it. Contact contact@conceptz.com.ng about access, correction, deletion or other applicable privacy rights. You retain rights under applicable data-protection law, including the right to complain to the relevant regulator.
5. Updates
Area51 checks GitHub for signed desktop updates from either download route. GitHub sees network metadata and the app version in the request; no email or device identifier is included. Only packages matching the configured release key, allowed download locations, signed size and digest are accepted. After discovering an update, it attempts daily reminders and automatic installation after a 72-hour grace period. Connectivity, notification settings and installation failures affect this schedule. Updates requiring new terms need interactive acceptance. Guard handoff attempts to preserve existing work but cannot guarantee uninterrupted protection.
Microsoft Store distributes the regular installer, not a separate app edition. Area51 manages subsequent updates through the same signed release channel. Back up important work. Signing does not guarantee error-free software.
6. Free, proprietary software
Area51 is free to use but is not open source. The separate LICENSE file grants permission to use official binaries and explains distribution restrictions. source code, design assets and branding remain proprietary to Creative Conceptz Solutions LTD. Third-party components retain their own licenses and notices. Rights previously granted for an earlier release under another license are not withdrawn by these terms. Hosted-service use and support are separate; there is no commitment that hosted recovery will remain available indefinitely or that third-party services will remain free.
7. Disclaimer and liability
To the extent allowed by law, the software and hosted service are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of uninterrupted operation, fitness for a particular purpose, error-free performance or complete security. Software can contain defects. No representation is made that Area51 provides protection suitable for medical, safety-critical or regulated uses.
To the extent allowed by law, Creative Conceptz Solutions LTD and contributors are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of data, interruption or unauthorized access arising from use of the software or service. Nothing excludes liability that law does not permit us to exclude, or removes mandatory consumer, privacy or other statutory rights. The software license's warranty and liability provisions also apply within their lawful scope.
8. Removal, service changes and terms changes
Delete account in Settings removes this installation's recovery registration, unlock passcode and local preferences after authentication and confirmation. Deletion requires successful online removal before local credentials are erased; if the request fails, local settings remain so you can retry. It restores guarded windows. Other installations using the same email have separate registrations and are not deleted. No browsing data or documents are deleted. This is ordinary file deletion, not guaranteed forensic erasure. If local cleanup fails after remote deletion, Area51 reports it and keeps a guard-off profile where possible for another attempt. You can uninstall Area51 offline using your local passcode. If you have set a passcode, the uninstaller requires it before removing application files or cleaning the local profile. Incorrect attempts share the five-attempt, five-hour lockout. Cancellation leaves the app installed. Silent uninstall is not supported. If no passcode has been created, there is no passcode requirement. To reset a forgotten passcode, cancel uninstall and use email recovery in Area51; reset requires internet access. Unreadable credentials or failed verification block ordinary removal. This check does not prevent an administrator or a same-account process from bypassing it through manual file removal or other operating-system access. Uninstall removes the application and its startup integration, not the online account. Both download routes offer normal uninstall, which keeps the protected local profile for reinstall on the same PC and Windows account, or complete clean uninstall, which removes its local passcode, recovery key, preferences and downloaded updates without contacting the service. Clean removal requires fresh email verification and a new local passcode on reinstall; it is ordinary file deletion, not forensic erasure. The online registration is not deleted. On another PC, or without the saved profile, you can verify the same email for a new installation. Local unlock passcodes and app selections do not sync between PCs. Only use Delete account before uninstalling if you want account deletion as well. Your other applications, their profiles and your documents are never removed. Contact support for remote record removal if the installation key is unavailable. External provider records and operating-system logs are outside this cleanup.
We may change or discontinue the hosted service, for example for security, abuse, provider limits or operational reasons. Where practicable, material changes may or may not be announced through our website or an app update. Updated installation terms will be shown in interactive setup. These terms do not authorize silent acceptance of materially different terms: automatic updates use the terms already accepted, and updates requiring new acceptance need interactive setup. Previously granted license rights are unaffected by service discontinuation or a terms change.
9. General and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Nigeria, subject to any mandatory rights and protections that apply where you live. Contact us first about a concern; nothing here removes your right to seek a lawful remedy or regulator assistance. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent allowed by law.
