Area51 provides a casual-access privacy guard. We do not collect browser history, window titles, selected application paths, documents or your local unlock passcode. There is no application analytics, advertising or marketing email.
Local profile
Your passcode verifier, failed attempts, selected and hidden applications, recovery email and device key remain on your Windows account, protected using Windows DPAPI. Settings and unlock checks are local. Startup checks only read Windows startup state and use no network connection. Windows and other applications may retain their own logs; the guard does not control these.
Email recovery
Setup requires email verification. We process your email, installation public key/identifier, signed requests, timestamps, nonces and submitted verification passcodes to verify enrollment, send reset passcodes, prevent abuse and remove your registration. The unlock passcode/verifier is never uploaded. Cloudflare Workers/D1 hosts the service and database; Brevo delivers the messages. These providers process network metadata and delivery records under their policies. Email is encrypted in our database but decrypted by our service for delivery; it is not end-to-end encrypted. Information may be processed outside Nigeria.
Retention
Email challenges expire after ten minutes. Hourly cleanup removes expired challenges and quotas, and unverified registrations older than one day. Verified registrations remain until authenticated deletion. Short-lived keyed quota records can remain until scheduled expiry after deletion. Provider logs, mailbox copies, backups and operating-system records are not erased by Area51.
Updates and Microsoft Store
Both download routes use the same app and contact GitHub for signed updates. Requests include the app version and ordinary network metadata, not your email or device identity. There is no separate Store update checker or package-local profile. Microsoft handles Store discovery, installation and associated account information under its own privacy statement.
Your controls and rights
Delete account in Settings removes this installation's online recovery record and local profile after passcode authentication and explicit confirmation. It leaves other installations with the same email and your documents/applications intact. Failed online deletion preserves local credentials for retry. Ordinary file deletion is not guaranteed forensic erasure.
Uninstall with the local passcode works offline and never requests account deletion. Both download routes offer normal uninstall (keep the protected local profile for reinstall on the same PC and Windows account) or complete clean uninstall (remove the local passcode, recovery key, preferences and update downloads). Clean removal is ordinary file deletion, not guaranteed forensic erasure, and requires fresh verification and a new local passcode on reinstall. The online registration remains. You can verify the same email on another PC or a fresh installation; unlock passcodes and app selections are not cloud-synced. Use Settings > Delete account only when you want to delete the registration. Contact support for remote removal if you no longer have the installation key.
